Our group is settling in for its first night in Guatemala and spirits are high! We made it easily through customs and across Guatemala City to our first stop, an incredible late lunch/early dinner with Sandy Cardona, the founder of Faces & Our Culture.

In truth, some of the group felt overwhelmed by being in such a new place. There may even have been some anxious, tired tears in the bus. But all of that disappeared with lunch. Sandy, her husband, and her colleagues made us feel like old friends. They served us a delicious meal, answered countless questions, and presented us with the first taste of local hospitality. It was amazing and everyone was smiling for our three hours together.

After our meal, we inched through intense traffic all the way to our first stop, a little town just outside of Antigua Guatemala. There, we debriefed a bit and covered common expectations. And now we are all winding down for a well-deserved night of sleep.

Last night was steak, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and tres leeches cake. Tonight was tortillas, refried beans with fresh cream, chorizo, steak, hot dogs, marshmallows, and more. We are being spoiled!
