When I first came to India, I didn’t have any idea what to expect. I tried not to have expectations before the trip because I thought that would leave me more ready to be surprised by everything. I remember when I first stepped out of the airport, I could immediately tell we weren’t in America anymore.
I remember how different the air felt, how different things smelled, and how different the vibe was. If I could describe how it felt in one single way, it would be that it feels like all five senses are punching you in the face. Even though there are no actual ovens anywhere near New Delhi airport, you can always look out and tell that you’re in an extreme place with weather. However, the extreme weather is just one thing.
If I think about it, I could argue that everything here in India is different. It’s not the same. I could say that everything has been shocking, even when it hasn’t been too surprising. Shocking because it hits the senses. The biggest differences that have surprised me are the food, the scenery, the traffic (and Mr. Alter’s ability to not get in an accident), and the culture that’s visible everywhere we’ve been…
A place of extremes can feel really comfortable and fun. I’ve learned that first hand. There is no argument now. India is the “Land of Eternal Extremes. I can’t wait to see and experience more. There is so much to learn, so much fun to have.
