The 2024-25 trip to Senegal has begun! The group is en route from campus to West Africa right now and it’s exciting to picture so many excited students embarking on such a big adventure. I have been in the region doing admission work for a few days now and can safely say that arriving in Senegal in February of 2025 feels just about perfect. The kindness and hospitality of the people. The warmth of the sun. The sound of the ocean. The food. The history. There is so much here that helps make this place so special.
Teranga is the local word for hospitality and kindness. It is a reminder that it can be natural to pay attention to and take care of others. If you come to Senegal, you feel it!
I hope you all will follow the blog and seek out the digital imprints of Teranga on the travelers and all of us. So much to look forward to!
Tomorrow, the first meal of the trip in Senegal will be an easy example of Teranga. We’ll be eating at my friend Bandia’s house. We’ll be eating thiebou app (rice with a mix of vegetables and beef). We’ll be playing with kids and babies. We’ll be playing soccer. Teranga will surround us!
